p e r f o r m a n c e c a l e n d a r2011 CALENDAR
July 30th, 2011 - this Saturday! Aeriosa & Eagle Song Dancers Perform at Illuminares Lantern Festival. If you missed Aeriosa's recent performances of THUNDERBIRD at the Vancouver Public Library (as part of the Dancing on the Edge Festival 2011) you can still catch this very special collaboration with Eagle Song Dancers! We are thrilled to take part in the annual Illuminares Lantern Festival on Saturday July 30th. THUNDERBIRD will be performed over the water at sunset on the west side of the Canada Place exterior promenade presented by Public Dreams Society. Traditional canoe singer/dancer Bob Baker and Julia Taffe, Artistic Director of Aeriosa, will lead a shared ceremony of Squamish song and vertical dance recalling an ancient Coast Salish ritual of respect for the traditional territories of others. Squamish canoe drum dancing and Aeriosa's signature vertical choreography combine to celebrate 10,000 years of Squamish culture in modern-day Vancouver and Aeriosa's 10th anniversary. THUNDERBIRD was created with the support of the City of
Vancouver 125th Anniversary Grants Program, the Canada Council for
the Arts and the participation of the Government of Canada. Aeriosa
would also like to acknowledge the BC Arts Council for supporting
the Aeriosa Dance Society Free Performance Program.
As part of the Dancing on the Edge Festival 2011 July 12 | 11am performance with Eagle Song, 12pm (noon) performance with
only Aeriosa dancers A mixed program of dance featuring a special new collaboration with Eagle Song Dancers, plus an excerpt from Aeriosa’s In Situ, which premiered as part of the Vancouver 2010 Cultural Olympiad. Traditional canoe singer/dancer Bob Baker and Artistic Director of Aeriosa Julia Taffe, will lead a shared ceremony of Squamish song and dance recalling an ancient Coast Salish ritual of respect for the traditional territories of others. Squamish canoe drum dancing combined with Aeriosa’s signature vertical choreography, will truly celebrate 10,000 years of Squamish culture in the 125th anniversary of modern-day Vancouver. The wildly popular excerpt from In Situ entitled “Business Woman’s Tango” returns to grace the elegant (and highest!) curved wall of the 22-storey Federal Office Tower at 300 West Georgia. Aeriosa resumes their relationship with architecture, live music and vertical dance with the generous support of the Vancouver Public Library. Funders: City of Vancouver 125th Anniversary Grants Program, the Canada Council for the Arts, British Columbia Arts Council, and the participation of the Government of Canada. Special thanks: Vancouver Public Library, Public Works and Government Services Canada and SNC-Lavalin ProFac for providing access to the architecture of Library Square. Each performance is approximately 40 minutes long.
As part of Granville Island's Winterruption Festival 2011 February 25 - 27, 2011 Suspended high above the ground, Aeriosa performers cast a magical spell directly under Granville Bridge, as four women invoke a ritual conjuring warmth and light on a winter night. Choreographed by Artistic Director Julia Taffe, Cold Hands Warm Heart Too is especially created for the Winterruption Festival 2011. Each performance is approximately 10 minutes.

2010 CALENDARREIMAGINE ART FESTIVAL September 24, 2010 Choreographed exclusively for the ReImagine Art Festival, Aeriosa will use an exterior wall of the hotel as their stage, creating a 3D mid-air dance while rigged to the side of the building. Enjoy a performance while sitting on a patio at the Lakeside or pause and watch the dance while on an evening stroll. Each performance is approximately 12 minutes. Visit the Penticton ReImagine Art Festival website at
http://downtownpenticton.org/reimagine/
Open Rehearsals: August 30th & 31st - 1:30 to 3:30 pm Next week, for the first time, Aeriosa performers will dance on the Vancouver Block, a designated heritage building near the intersection of Granville and West Georgia. Built in 1912, this art nouveau high-rise is easily identified by its crowning architecture - a four-sided clock tower illuminated in neon lights at night. Julia Taffe will be creating new choreography for six dancers suspended from ropes on the north, west and south walls of the building to culminate in three performance presentations of Serendipity on Sept 1, 2010. All are welcome to this free event. The production of Serendipity is sponsored by the Downtown Vancouver Business
Association.
March 17 & 18, 2010 - 10pm FREE ADMISSION Dynamic aerial dance and live music combine in the breathtaking performance In Situ
In Situ starts indoors and unfolds in the seven-story concourse of Vancouver’s Central Library, setting the scene for dynamic interaction between the dancers, musicians and Moshe Safdie's striking architectural design. Artists from Aeriosa and the Vertical Orchestra (Redshift Music Society) work three-dimensionally, presenting suspended spectacular dance and original spatial music throughout the venue at various heights. The audience will be encouraged to flow through the building, led by the artists and guides who will interact with them along the way, eventually ending outdoors in the serene grandeur of Library Square. Aeriosa has commissioned an outstanding team of diverse artists under the direction of artistic director Julia Taffe to create a full-length interdisciplinary site-specific work: choreographer Amelia Rudolph, founding artistic director of the internationally renowned vertical dance company Project Bandaloop, and BC composers Jocelyn Morlock and Jordan Nobles. In Situ is inspired by physical expression, engagement with the environment and societal contrasts — themes that permeate Vancouver's cultural landscape and shape urban life on the West Coast. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to witness this free, public event combining the celebrated Vertical Orchestra and the breathtaking grace of the dance artists from Aeriosa.

Location: South Plaza Colonnades of Library Square (corner Robson & Homer)
Presented by the 2008 Dancing on the Edge Festival
A sky poem for two, danced down the south face of the Vancouver Library Square -- Cumulus explores the territory of daydreams -- humans evoking cloud-forms migrating across the sky, celestial creatures morphing on the wings of the wind. Cumulus draws parallels between sentient passion and atmospheric energy - juxtaposing the crackling electricity of weather systems against the accelerating heartbeats of flying dancers…
