UPCOMING AERIOSA PERFORMANCE

THUNDERBIRD
July 30th, 2011 - this Saturday!

at the Canada Place Exterior Promenade, Downtown Vancouver

8:00 PM

Aeriosa & Eagle Song Dancers Perform at Illuminares Lantern Festival.

If you missed Aeriosa's recent performances of THUNDERBIRD at the Vancouver Public Library (as part of the Dancing on the Edge Festival 2011) you can still catch this very special collaboration with Eagle Song Dancers!

We are thrilled to take part in the annual Illuminares Lantern Festival on Saturday July 30th. THUNDERBIRD will be performed over the water at sunset on the west side of the Canada Place exterior promenade presented by Public Dreams Society. Traditional canoe singer/dancer Bob Baker and Julia Taffe, Artistic Director of Aeriosa, will lead a shared ceremony of Squamish song and vertical dance recalling an ancient Coast Salish ritual of respect for the traditional territories of others. Squamish canoe drum dancing and Aeriosa's signature vertical choreography combine to celebrate 10,000 years of Squamish culture in modern-day Vancouver and Aeriosa's 10th anniversary.

THUNDERBIRD was created with the support of the City of Vancouver 125th Anniversary Grants Program, the Canada Council for the Arts and the participation of the Government of Canada.  Aeriosa would also like to acknowledge the BC Arts Council for supporting the Aeriosa Dance Society Free Performance Program.

OUR MISSION

Vancouver-based Aeriosa Dance Society was founded by artistic director/choreographer Julia Taffe in 2001 to manifest art, performance, 21st century culture, and express human perception and sensitivity through dance.

The company's artistic objectives include creating dance in non-traditional environments, exploring aerial choreography and revealing dance in the vertical realm to new audiences. The company combines contemporary dance technique with expert knowledge of safe rope rigging systems to create three-dimensional performances that re-interpret gravity and respond to the performance location.
