Aeriosa Spring Newsletter
April 2009
A Message from Julia Taffe, Artistic Director
Dear Friends and Members,
Welcome to the first e-newsletter of Aeriosa Dance Society. I am very pleased that we have finally re-organized our database and established an easy way to stay in contact with our members. Thank you Diana from New Works for your help! Spring is here and things are growing, including Aeriosa, so this quarterly newsletter will be a great way to let you know about our upcoming performances and workshops. I would like to tak this opportunity to encourage you to invite your friends, family and colleagues to discover our work for themselves by coming to see our next performance.
One of our most exciting projects in the works is In Situ, a full-length collaboration between Aeriosa and The Vertical Orchestra that will premiere in March 2010. Aeriosa has commissioned San Francisco choreographer Amelia Rudolph and Vancouver composers Jordan Nobles and Jocelyn Morlock to create a full-evening work that will see musicians and dancers colonizing Vancouver Library Square - filling public space with nestled and soaring performances. Guest choreographer Amelia Rudolph has created dances on cliffs and buildings around the world with her own company Project Bandaloop. She has been my mentor since I first interned with her company in 1993 and together we have danced on buildings in Canada, Argentina, Brazil, Turkey and the US and on cliffs in both Banff and Yosemite National Parks. It is my great pleasure to introduce Amelia's work to Vancouver artists and audiences. Amelia begins creating In Situ on site at Library Square on April 30th, working with a cast of 8 dancers and composer Jordan Nobles. The dancers will be rehearsing on site at Library Square almost every after noon over the next two weeks, so if you hear stories about flying people flocking around downtown in the next few days...they're probably true! On May 11th we are staging an informal 15-minute sneak preview of In Situ at the corner of West Georgia and Homer Street. Immediately after the showing we are hosting an audience talk-back session with the artists and then we will be holding our 4th AGM in the Library Square Boardroom. Hope to see you there.
Yours Truly,
Julia Taffe
